Odor Control Will Make Us a Better NeighborImproving odor control at the treatment plant has presented many challenges. The District contracted with a nationally recognized expert in odor control to design the most cost-effective and reliable methods for removing odors from various sources throughout the plant. They carried out scientific studies on the sources of odor and carried out extensive engineering. Treatment-Based Odor ControlChemicals are added to treatment processes to curb the generation of odors. The District uses sophisticated odor monitoring equipment which can measure one part per billion to determine the effectiveness of our odor control efforts and to make process changes when odors are detected. Bio-ScrubbersNew odor Control systems collect odors from various parts of the treatment plant and move them to a biological process where they are trapped and removed using bio-scrubbers that were put into operation in 2007. |
